Melanie MacLaren’s cover of The Swimming Song brings the folk classic into the modern indie era. With the addition of electric guitar, synthesizers and recordings of friends and family, it sounds like Maggie Rogers and Waxahatchee. As for the vocals, I can be brief, they’re simply outstanding. Every line I heard was delivered in such a sincere manner.
MacLaren’s version retains the original’s carefree spirit, celebrating everyday joys. However, her take feels fresh and urgent, making it ideal for summer drives, lake days or pool parties.
