Salty Licorice is one of those artists who embraces creative risks. She took an experimental approach to R&B with Yemanya (p.19). The song has a mellow vibe but layers electronic and traditional instruments to form an intricate soundscape.
The lyrics are inspired by page 19 of Paulo Coelho’s novel The Spy. On this page, the main character writes a heartfelt last letter to her daughter. Licorice aims to capture the emotional tone and message of this letter, which she does successfully.
