Rotterdam-based singer/songwriter Sophia Habib is paving the way for success by balancing a tightrope between pop and R&B. She releases her new single, HABIBTI. I’m delighted with the production of this one, as it feels very detailed. A vast amount of work has gone into it. The heavy bass and smooth electronic beats dance around the moon, making you want to follow them. The vocals are convincing, giving the lyrics their intended expression.
In HABIBTI, Sophia recounts the tale of her criminal father who exploited her mother for his own gain. He manipulated her with words to maintain her loyalty, only to repeat the pattern with Sophia later on. Through her lyrics, the rising star channels her fury towards him and questions the sincerity behind his endearment, habibti.
