As a Dutch blog, we believe it’s fundamental to give upcoming local artists a platform. GINGE is certainly someone who deserves to be noticed even more. With her music, she blurs genres and eagerly experiments. What’s cooler than that? On the album she just released, Playing Around, GINGE puts the cards in her own hands.
To give you a general idea, the project centers around love and romance. On top of that, GINGE turns the negative into something positive. She really views life as a playground, where you have to get back up after falling.
Trampoline opens the EP and with (edited) vocals and velvety beats and melodic motifs, the atmosphere is immediately good. On Paper is less experimental and makes me think of something Jorja Smith would sing. And let me tell you, that’s a compliment. In addition to these two tracks, there are more notables. How about Insulin? This acoustic tune values calmness and lets you dream away while GINGE performs.
Lead single Butterfly Effect has some rap influences and is sweet as honey. The lyrics are about finding relief in love and why it’s the right thing to do. Things feel exciting. Musically, Butterfly Effect is greatly expanded with multiple layers that form a connection over what matters.
To celebrate the release of Playing Around, GINGE will hold a show in the holy temple of Amsterdam, Paradiso, a venue that has seen many phenomenal performances. It will take place on November 22. And Louis, where can I get tickets? Fortunately, I’ve an answer to that, namely here, I think it will be a fun evening, so definitely go, with friends, or alone.
