It implies a lack of trust and open communication between herself and her lover. Posing “are you mad at me?” also shifts the focus onto her own anxieties and fears, rather than addressing the actual issue at hand.
Samantha did everything she could sonically to memorialize this recurring doubt-filled inquiry she faces onto a track. With sweeping pop production and strong vocals, are you mad at me? gives a voice to those moments we don’t always understand.
