Singer-songwriter VANDA releases her new single, i don’t swim. It talks about the emotional turmoil and vulnerability that occurs with repeatedly putting yourself out there to build relationships, despite past disappointments. In the verses, the VANDA reflects on the pain of continuously getting hurt (“put my heart on the line”) and feeling let down by someone’s promises of safety. The pre-chorus highlights the her initial willingness to trust, which leads to a metaphorical sinking beneath the surface when things don’t go as hoped. The hook reinforces the notion of being overwhelmed or trapped (“my body’s on the ocean ground”), with a glimmer of hope for a better outcome in the future (“hoping I will float next time around”).
i don’t swim features atmospheric production and poppy guitars that set the track in motion. The vocals are heartfelt, resonating and recognizable, with their own unique sound. You’ll love them, for sure. I mean, this song is awesome in general.
