The song’s origins stem from her and her friends’ experiences of being hit on aggressively by men in clubs – situations that made them feel uncomfortable and objectified. The lyrics truly focus on knowing your worth as a woman and being completely unfazed by any unwanted interest or advances.
With lines like “How can you read me so wrong” and “Did you think staring at me would be making my heart race,” TAZ asserts that value doesn’t come from the male gaze.
The bouncy, confident production purposefully suits the song’s tone. The vocals are powerful and rely on their own qualities rather than gimmicks. The chorus hits home easily, which is really impressive.
