Rising artist Jaydi Zavala, from Studio City, drops her debut EP, Cool Girl, which includes complicated. The song plays out a scene of her and a man who’s very curious about where she was last night. She playfully teases between spilling the truth or keeping him guessing. But when the chorus hits, she drops the act and proudly declares what we know already – she’s complicated, and she’s not sorry about it.
complicated delivers the right mix of ’00s indie nostalgia and Kaytranada-style bounce, serving up retro synths with infectious beats. But the real magic? Jaydi’s bold, sassy vocals strutting over the top, giving the song a carefree, unapologetic attitude.
