EMME is a singer-songwriter with relatable material. She shares her single, New Best Friend. It talks about the heartbreak of losing a close friendship, specifically when the other person drifts away and you’re replaced by someone completely different. Since the lyrics are written as a snarky, hypothetical confrontation, it has a mix of bitterness, sarcasm, and longing, representing all the unspoken thoughts and emotions you never got to say out loud.
I enjoy the indie pop production of this song and how the vocals rise above it, like they’re looking for an open dance floor. The chorus has plenty of energy, which is a huge plus.
