Saint Charles Avenue marks the second single from LA singer-songwriter Marika Che. Its lyrics are about realizing you’ve been holding onto a relationship that isn’t really working for you anymore. At first there’s a lot of dreaming and hoping things will feel right, but over time it starts to feel like you’re losing yourself and just reacting to someone else’s emotions.
The song starts off stripped back and intimate, with just voice and lightly plucked guitar. It quickly opens up into a rich, melodic chorus, backed by airy backing vocals and a full band that gives it real lift. By verse two, soft, sensuous sax & trumpet samples fill out the empty spaces.
