Most of us are taught that strength means holding on. Gritting your teeth. Pushing through. But Joëtta goes further, asking in her new song, Waterfall, how might letting go be a sign of real strength?
It’s a question which goes against everything we’ve internalized. From childhood, we learn that winners never quit, that perseverance is virtue, that to release your grip is to admit defeat. We wear our exhaustion like armor, our stubbornness like medals. We confuse endurance with courage, and somewhere along the way, we forget that the strongest trees in the storm are the ones that bend.
Not only the lyrical content rocks here, but also the musical stuff., Joëtta walks the narrow line between folk and pop’s emotional intensity. I love how the guitar arrangement unfolds throughout, with the vocals complementing it so well.
