Lisbon’s finest export since pastel de nata MARO drops, SO MUCH HAS CHANGED, an all-English record about turning 30. In particular, the title track impresses. The whole song is MARO processing the bizarre phenomenon where one day you wake up and realize the thing that destroyed you two years ago now barely registers as a blip. Like, remember when that person ghosted you and you were convinced you’d never recover? And now you can’t even remember their last name? Yeah, that.
“Pain doesn’t linger, feeling okay” is such an understated way to describe literally the most shocking realization of your late twenties/early thirties. Pain does fade. The middle fingers you were throwing at your enemies (metaphorical or otherwise) eventually just… drop. Not because you became some enlightened guru, but because you got tired and your arm hurt and also you had to respond to some emails.
SO MUCH CHANGED is complete musically. Catchy acoustic textures move through the atmosphere, with MARO’s wonderful voice leading the way. You’ll be blown away.
