Dutch singer-songwriter Swan really said “let me make a song about something we all know is messed up but don’t talk about” and went for it. Butterflies tells the story of staying with someone you don’t actually have feelings for because their attention makes you feel valid.
Swan’s vulnerable vocals combined with Anwar Sawyer’s emotive production (Audrey Nuna a.o.) reveal the aforementioned inner conflict in a beautiful way. The sound takes influences by artists like SZA, Snoh Aalegra and Daniel Caesar.
