Cheyenne Pohl releases her new single, Ladylike. Its sonic blueprint comes from Revolver-era psychedelia, in other words, rock music at the moment it realized it could do anything. Cheyenne applies the same logic. The guitars have genuine grit on them, the swagger is easygoing, and the whole thing has the energy of someone who stopped explaining herself some time ago and has been much happier since.
Told from a third-person perspective, the song follows a woman who refuses to shrink herself to fit outdated expectations. The lyrics are absolutely powerful.
The word ladylike was always a compliment with a catch. A reward for compliance disguised as praise. The song knows this, and instead of arguing the point, it just amps up the volume and lets the riff make the case. Check it out below!
