The latest from Stephen Becker draws on the taut, introspective energy of Wilco’s A Ghost Is Born and Big Thief’s Capacity. His voice rises above shimmering acoustic guitars and spacious drums, returning again and again to a single refrain: “You’re still just the way you are, the way you’ve always been.” What starts as reassurance slowly reveals itself as something more anxious the longer you sit with it.
Bad Idea is one of those tracks that rewards patience. Give it the time it asks for.
