It’s hard to lose a friend. There’s no script for it. No one checks in on you, no one brings you flowers, no one tells you it’s okay to grieve because somehow we’ve all collectively decided that this form of heartbreak doesn’t count. But it does. It really, really does.
Alanna Matty’s new single The Process goes there. It’s a song about the silent devastation of outgrowing a friendship, or realizing one was never quite right for you to begin with, and the pain of staying anyway, shrinking yourself down to fit someone else’s idea of what a good friend looks like
The fact that Matty found those words, and turned them into something this emotionally precise, is what makes The Process so worth your time. It fills a gap that pop music doesn’t address nearly enough.
