You know how it feels when you’re watching a relationship dissolve and instead of just saying something, you open a Notes app and start composing? Miya Zawa doesn’t just know that feeling, she built a whole single out of it and somehow made emotional avoidance sound like the most intentional artistic choice of 2026.
Don’t Talk is the sort of song that finds you. Not the other way around.
The whole concept was sparked by a kick drum sample. While sitting in the studio, a week post-breakup, mind you, Miya was scrolling through sounds when she found one simply labelled “Don’t Talk.” That was all it took. “The first kick sample I chose was called ‘Don’t Talk’. That became the trigger for the concept… I had gone through a breakup the week before, where differing styles of communication became one of our main hurdles. ”Don’t Talk” became way too real of a concept to write about.”
