Montreal-based multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Alanna Sterling shares Down, an upbeat pop/indie-rock track that, regardless of uncertainty, provides a cathartic and empowering outcome.
The song is based on a real-life experience while travelling, when Alanna found themselves stranded alone with a dead phone battery, no money, and no way to reconnect with friends. Armed only with a skateboard and guitar, they began busking outside a strip mall for spare change before being confronted by police and threatened with a fine for performing on private property.
“After reviving my phone, I called my friends, found a secluded area under a palm tree, and wrote the whole song in 15 minutes while I waited for them to pick me up,” Alanna explains.
I like the production of this song, which is driven by punchy guitars an bright melodic hooks. The vocals sound convincing all the way through.
