Being bad feels so good. That’s the energy Miya Zawa is serving with yakitori. Inspired by the idea of guilty pleasures, it explores relationships where one foot is always out the door, yet something keeps pulling you back in.
Zawa shares: ”This song is about not being fully invested in relationships / situationships. I tend to find myself in relationships where I’ve got one foot out the door, but there’s something that keeps me in. Whether it’s the need for intimacy, sex or not wanting to be alone. I tend to overlook red flags, but at the same time inviting the drama a little bit as a form of self sabotage. ORRR Maybe I do all of the above just so I can keep writing music. I know I like it a little too much.”
The production of yakitori is genius. I love its addictive groove and melodic elements, such as the guitar and sax. The vocals are powerful; they exude so much distinctiveness.
yakitori continues to showcase the qualities that have made Zawa one of Australia’s most exciting emerging voices. Check it out below!
