Berlin-based, New Jersey-raised producer and vocalist Dis Fig, the project of Felicia Chen, returns with Psaltery, the second single from her upcoming album What To Make Of These Mortal Hands, out October 23 via Thrill Jockey. The track takes its name from the ancient zither instrument Chen discovered while touring and taught herself to play in her own unconventional way.
I really like how Psaltery slowly transforms as it progresses. It begins with Chen gently strumming the psaltery alongside her crystalline vocals, producing an almost floating atmosphere. Gradually, sub-bass creeps into the arrangement before the track erupts into distorted electronics and deep sub-frequencies, taking things into very intense territory.
Psaltery must be one of the most innovative tunes I’ve ever heard. Check it out below!
