Barcelona-born, Brooklyn-based artist NOIA presents As Per My Last Email, her first release since her critically acclaimed debut album Gisela. The lyrics take a sharp and playful look at the pressure to be constantly available, transforming endless emails, notifications, and “I’ll get back to you” messages into a portrait of modern burnout. Pregnancy adds an extra dimension to the song, highlighting the absurdity of trying to schedule everything when life simply doesn’t adhere to it.
I find the contrast in the production cool; it gives the song a quirky and somewhat chaotic energy that fits the subject perfectly. The video goes a step further and places NOIA in surreal office environments scattered across a forest and a beach, as she slowly becomes part of the machine she’s trying to escape.
As Per My Last Email is clever, unusual, and incredibly timely. NOIA really delivers with this one, making her return a very welcome one.
