Being an outsider in a foreign culture is nothing new to songwriter Helena Hallberg, born in Switzerland to Swedish parents. Now a resident of Nashville, she offers a sharp, perceptive take on the American experience. She recently released her new alt-pop banger Fuel, dedicated to the chronically exhausted. It captures the physical cost of running on empty in a system designed to extract everything you have.
Fuel has exemplary instrumentation, with excellent guitar playing, smooth bass playing, and momentum-based drumming. The vocals are engaging to listen to due to their varied delivery.
