Brodie Dawson describes her style as a mix of ‘soulful bluesy folk’ with gospel funk, pop and a twang of old-school country. She has been named ‘Vocalist of the Year’ at the Vancouver Island Music Awards and nominated for ‘Best Live Act’ multiple times.
Skip a Beat provides a uniquely arranged instrumental accompaniment. A lot of creativity can be found in its organic sound. In her lyrics, Brodie describes situations so well, accurately describing them.
Brodie’s words on the track include the following: ”This song was inspired by a friend of mine who ended up meeting the most incredible guy, but he was quite a bit younger than she was. She was telling me how amazing things were going and how he was basically perfect for her in every way and wanted to just free-fall into love, but reason and reality just kept stopping her. They made the heartbreaking choice to go their separate ways.”
It’s officially Autumn, so let’s listen to some compelling storytelling music. Check out Skip a Beat below!
