It’s a crazy rollercoaster ride the mind takes when we fall for a stranger. We can go from sheer panic and anxiety, to feeling like we can conquer the world. Our thoughts flutter around and it’s hard to make sense of it all. Ali Angel’s fourth single, Middle Name, accurately describes this situation. It talks about taking risks and putting yourself out there, even when you’re not sure what the outcome will be.
The production on Middle Name is absolutely mind blowing. The way the pulsing rhythm is carried by the bass and drums, and then amplified by the staccato guitar hits in the verses, is really well done. Middle Name takes on a very different vibe in the pre-chorus and chorus, with driving guitars and gritty emotional vocals. The breakdown and bridge feature fun distorted vocals using a 1980’s space echo.
