Emma Hughes, a London-based artist who makes cinematic pop, just dropped Goodbyes. She describes the creation of this track as a cathartic process during the early stages of a painful breakup. Initially, she was filled with annoyance and resisted accepting the end of the relationship, masking her sadness with anger. While venting to a friend about her frustration, she realized she was hiding her true feelings of sadness and lack of control over the situation. This realization inspired the song’s concept.
Goodbyes reminds me sonically of Adele, largely owing to the piano arrangement. Of course, this is amazing. The vocals are powerful, having a good deal of dynamic features that add value to the song. I love the chorus with its heartfelt melody.
