London-based artist, producer and vocalist 98 Poly releases her new single, titled shallow man. While on a solo writing trip in Italy’s Baroque cities, she penned the lyrics for the song, which are open to interpretation.
Rather than leading with harmony like usual, she focused on creating a “bouncy playful production” for this one. She took her time dialing in the drums, recycling old stems and hunting for new ones. True to her style, there are “layer-on-layer of manipulated vocals and distorted ear-worms” which she calls her “cherry on top.”
To refine the arrangement, she played it over 100 times during her live shows last year and considered changing the lyrics over 100 times too. But in the end, she kept it authentic straight from her “sun-kissed battered notebook.”
