Avalon Annaliese Rose Baker, known simply as Avalon, takes her name from the mythical Isle of Avalon, a place of magic and healing, which mirrors her artistry. She now shares sydney.
The song is inspired by Avalon’s childhood best friend, Sydney. They met in kindergarten and were inseparable for 11 years. Suddenly, their friendship ended, and as a 16-year-old, Avalon didn’t know how to process such a huge loss. She avoided her feelings at the time, leading to inner conflict.
Years later, during a difficult period in her life, Avalon deeply missed Sydney and began mourning the friendship. She would drive past Sydney’s house, sometimes crying and apologizing to nobody, carrying shame she felt she couldn’t admit. To release this guilt and process her emotions, Avalon sat at her piano and wrote the opening line, “I drove past your house, crying,” turning her most private, vulnerable moment into the essence of the song. sydney became a proper goodbye, and a way to honor a friendship she will always cherish.
