Sarah Durbin is an ADHD cradle-Catholic making music that reflects exactly that. She recently released Sister Mary Catherine. Its lyrics are about rebellion against religious hypocrisy, guilt, and authoritarian control disguised as morality. Through the character of a nun who was so tyrannical she ends up running Hell, Durbin uses dark humor and punk energy to confront the institutions and figures that impose shame or suppress individuality in the name of righteousness.
The single arrives with a cinematic music video that mixes 90s horror and camp with a darkly playful edge. It has the moody, atmospheric feel of The Nun, leans into the tongue-in-cheek, over-the-top quality of Scream, and channels the angsty alt-girl aesthetic of The Craft.
