A membrane isn’t a wall. It’s not even really a barrier in the traditional sense. It’s permeable, semi-transparent, thin enough to almost see through but thick enough to create separation. It’s the skin between cells. The surface tension on water. The moment when “we” silently becomes “you” and “I” without either person announcing it. Hannah Schneider named her new single after this precise, biological kind of distance.
Driven by restrained, almost hip-hop-like drums, Membrane unfolds with subtle drive, letting atmosphere and emotion carry the sound. Minimal yet deeply expressive, the song places Schneider’s voice in close dialogue with the bass clarinet’s dark, breathing pulse.
Membrane is for anyone interested in what happens when neoclassical composition meets alternative pop sensibility, and who likes deep lyrics. Check it out below!
