Forget the chocolates and teddy bears, Paris WYA is serving us emotional honesty with a side of Y2K nostalgia in Hate You More, her latest anti-Valentine’s Day offering. The track apparently started life as a sad ballad before the team said “actually, let’s make people dance through their feelings.” Smart move.
I love the narrative throughout. Paris didn’t take the easy route. To the contrary of the typical “you’re dead to me” narrative, she camps out in the weird emotional purgatory between anger and acceptance, where you’re simultaneously annoyed at your ex’s manchild behavior at the bar and also… kind of grateful for what you learned?
Hate You More truly works. Stream it, dance to it, cry to it, or all three at once. Paris WYA gets it.
