Cincinnati folk duo The Montvales ( Sally Buice and Molly Rochelson) have unveiled Carolina, the final single from their forthcoming album Path of Totality, due March 20 via Free Dirt Records.
Written in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the song grew out of a confluence of moments: Buice driving through a darkened canyon out West, a heartfelt email from a fan in Taos, footage of a lone fiddler playing on a stranded North Carolina mountainside, and Rochelson organizing supply drives with Cincinnati neighbors for East Tennessee communities. Together, those fragments crystallized into something larger what Buice describes as “a testament to the folks who forge ahead in beauty.”
I like the arrangement of Carolina. It has traditional folk influences which makes it so appealing. The vocals are marvelous, depicting sincere emotion.
