Margaux Regan is a 20-year-old singer and songwriter from Dublin, now based in London. She released Sob Story as part of her EP Afterthought. It talks about love where you saw the red flags, understood them on some level, but chose to look elsewhere anyway. The aftermath of that isn’t just grief. It’s grief with an argument attached. Anger at them, frustration at yourself, the whole messy tangle of it arriving at once and refusing to be separated into something neater.
Written with her friend Daniel Haughey, who Regan credits with helping get the words out when she couldn’t herself, Sob Story rests on acoustic instrumentation that stays out of its own way, leaving the vocals to do the heavy lifting. They’re more than up to it. The confessional Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo influence is there in the DNA.
