Originally written over a decade ago, Don’t Tease Me went through multiple unrealized versions before finally landing in its current form, and in two languages. After four years in France, where French has become Kay’s daily tongue, it made sense to let the song cross linguistic borders. Working with translator Nathalie Reis, Kay recorded both an English version (Don’t Tease Me) and a French counterpart (Ne me tourmente pas).

The song is spare by design. Electric guitar and voice, nothing else cluttering the zone between want and air. Benjamin Longman’s guitar work knows when to step back, which gives room for Kay’s soprano to do what it does best. Her voice drags the song’s emotional architecture, clear and urgent, holding all that passionate longing without letting it tip into desperation.

The lyrics feel thoughtful. They’re for anyone who has ever loved someone they couldn’t reach, or loved someone before they arrived, or just loved too much from far away but kept doing it anyway.
