Estella Dawn has released her new single, Hometown. She wrote it about small-town New Zealand, the pride and the suffocation of it, the people who stayed, the people who left, and the complicated truth of being one of the latter. The honesty is so complete it occasionally even surprised her.
I love the arrangement here, which is driven by brilliant guitar work. Fans of Gracie Abrams, Phoebe Bridgers, Olivia Dean, and Sabrina Carpenter will find themselves immediately at home. The vocals sound fantastic, tackling the right amount of emotion.
Hometown might be the most personal thing Dawn has ever put out. It’s also the most universal, because everyone has a version of this place, and many of us are still figuring out how we feel about it. Check out the song below!
