Maryn Charlie’s Hit By Lightning (from her third EP Threads) talks about the longing to be seen, not for validation, but just to know you exist in the world. Written from a lifetime of feeling invisible, of being the shy kid in the classroom too scared to speak, of wondering whether the teachers even knew her name, the song arrives as a declaration of readiness.
I love the sound throughout, which moves in a pop-like manner, but with its own unique flavor. Charlie’s singing rocks, because she makes every note sound magnificent.
