Songwriter and indie rock musician Jane Hobson releases her new single I’ll Be The Boy, produced by Victoria. It features fantastic, dreamy production, with guitar work sounding somewhat similar to what you hear in Clairo’s songs. The vocals are vulnerable, yet precisely because of that, they come across as real.
This sapphic song explores the dynamics of dating someone who isn’t out yet. The tension sits in the way identity gets performed in private versus in public, where love has to be coded to survive. The gender presentation comes through most clearly in the hook, which says: “I’ll be the boy when I’m with you. You in a dress and I’ll wear blue.”
Jane delivers something impressive here. It’s clear that making music is important to her, as she uses it as a thoughtful outlet. Check out I’ll Be The Boy below!
