Dren Macdonald’s new single, Resting of Light, has a sonic similarity to Steve Reich, Kronos Quartet, and Björk. Its arrangement sounds amazing, highlighting multi-layered playing that’s constantly shifting. The vocals, provided by Carla Kihlstedt (of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum) and Amelie Anna, also captivate and help to further accentuate the creative direction throughout.
Written as a tribute to Hardy Fox, the longtime creative force behind The Residents, the track honors both the legacy he left behind as well as the impact of losing someone important. The lyrics possess an indescribable sincerity.
