BBC favorite Kohla releases her new single, titled You Took The World. It looks back on a first love through the lens of illness, mortality, and what can be lost along the way. The lyrics are not just good, but compelling as well.
The sound is wonderfully theatrical and cinematic, drawing from Kohla’s background as a classical musician. Sweeping orchestral elements, dramatic harmonies, and rich vocal layers gradually make the arrangement feel larger and more otherworldly. The final chorus is especially striking, with spiritual choral harmonies that lift the song upwards.
