Sleeping Dogs, the new EP from queer singer-songwriter Brooklyn Doran, began with an unlikely creative pairing. After spending long tours together talking about music, books, art and life, Doran and Jaye Schwarzer (Cancer Bats, Julie & The Wrong Guys) decided to see what would happen if her folk and singer-songwriter instincts met Schwarzer’s roots in hardcore and heavy music.
One of the results is Lobby Song, a song about Doran falling in love with her wife while being thousands of miles away on tour. And, fittingly, much of that romance happened from a hotel lobby at 3 a.m.
The whole time Doran was touring through Scandinavia, Europe and the UK with Cancer Bats, her wife would be waking up to start the workday just as she was winding down. So she found herself sitting in those hotel lobby seating areas at four in the morning in order not to wake up her bandmates.
Lobby Song feels so sincere and sweet. It’s one of those songs you simply can’t go past. Start listening below!
