Last Friday, Scottish Australian singer-songwriter Katie Reid released her new single, It doesn’t count when it’s your friends. The song looks back on growing up deeply religious and gradually accepting her bisexuality. As a teenager, Katie found herself caught between the faith she grew up with and the person she was becoming, going to church on weekends and then kissing her girlfriends at parties. I really admire how open and honest the lyrics are.
It doesn’t count when it’s your friends has a fun indie-pop sound with a campy rock edge. The drums and guitar work throughout the song are particularly impressive. Katie’s vocals sound powerful, expressing true emotion.
It doesn’t count when it’s your friends deserves all the shine it can get. Start listening below!
