Jon-Olov Woxlin is primarily a folk musician and songwriter from Bergsjö, Hälsingland, Sweden. You don’t often come across an album as complete as One-Way Ticket from Earth. It has a vibe that moves you emotionally but also makes you cheer at times. From the very first tune, How Did It Come to This?, accompanied only by acoustic guitar sonically, you step into Woxlin’s world and immediately feel at home. The honesty in his voice offers comfort. He talks about ending up in worse circumstances than ever before.

After track two there’s no escape anymore, you just keep listening. Among my favorite songs are Folly of Man, reminiscent of a Beatles ballad, and Call on Me Blues because it shows a completely different side of Woxlin. He’s very diverse. Come Home is amazing too, both production-wise and conceptually, with a narrative that speaks deeply on the idea of belonging. Folly of Man is perhaps the most innovative song here, showcasing a genuinely creative string arrangement.

It’s cool that Woxlin follows his own path. One-Way Ticket from Earth feels delightfully old-fashioned and doesn’t lean too heavily on modern embellishments, which is a nice change. Woxlin wanted to make music that actually sounds like music, if you know what I mean.

With One-Way Ticket from Earth, Woxlin is fully back and once again shows that he deserves to be in the spotlight. He more than lives up to expectations. Let’s hope many artists take inspiration from his style. However, perhaps it’s better that there’s only one Woxlin.
