CARLA T is a Sardinia-born, Brussels-based singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer. Her debut album, Tales of the Borders, recently arrived, and I’ll tell you right away: I’m blown away by it. Every aspect of the project screams quality. Perfect now that we’ve entered spring and you just want to hear some wonderful music.
Lyrically, Tales of the Borders goes deep. It speaks about physical and metaphysical borders, and about all the shifting spaces we carry within us. It certainly makes you think critically, but it also reminds you to live. Sometimes, staying open within uncertainties is the best strategy.
On the musical front, there are also plenty of positive things to say. CARLA weaves soul, alternative pop, and ATL R&B with elegance. I’m notably a big fan of the drums on opener My Mind Is a Sorcerer, the beautiful guitar solo on Countdown, and the atmospheric synths on Unsaid & Undone.
The vocals are a treat to listen to. CARLA utilizes a variety of techniques and approaches throughout. Kudos for that.
It’s evident CARLA put forth her full effort to deliver. Tales of the Borders isn’t something you consume in a flash, but something you need to get into slowly. During a time where things are moving fast, this is actually a good thing. I’d say. Check it out now, your time will be well spent.
