Jon-Olov Woxlin is a singer-songwriter from the depths of Hälsingland, Sweden, currently living in Gothenburg. He continues to stun with his alternative style, which fluctuates between folk, country, americana and traditional singer-songwriter music. His newest project, Obviously Just Like Robert Milkwood, is now out, and feels, as expected, so authentic, in part because of the acoustic setup, bringing you closer to the crux of the songs.
Everything about this project shouts quality. Take a tune like Closer to Closure, for example, where the harmonica provides such a beautiful intro and is complemented by guitar work that typifies excellence. Throughout, the vocals are also striking, especially during Traveling Abroad. He really put his soul into them.
Woxlin’s lyrics are still very much a strong point. From the reflective Need of Changes to the more cinematic The Tragedy of Michael and Iana Straws, his writing takes you through different lives, perspectives, and situations, sometimes venturing into darker territory.
One thing is certain: Woxlin doesn’t need complicated arrangements to make his songs interesting. Projects like Obviously Just Like Robert Milkwood have a timeless elegance that keeps you coming back to them. If you weren’t a fan of Woxlin before, you probably are now. He knows exactly what it takes to impress. Let that be a gift not everyone is blessed with.
