British artist Bethannie Hare releases her debut single, Minds Under My Skin. Musically, the song reminds me a little bit of Jorja Smith’s Blue Lights. It’s because it has sneaky jazzy influences and super soulful keys. The drums that enter around 0:55 provide the right rhythm. I like how the vocals come into the picture like flowers blooming in a field of color.
The lyrics talks about the struggle of feeling inadequate and dissatisfied due to unrealistic standards perpetuated by social media. As Bethannie puts it, you should be happy with who you are and what you’ve accomplished. There’s always someone who acts like they’re more successful than you, right?
